Haha this is the CUTEST thing. I was at the pet store yesterday and got this rat hes really small so hes probably 8-10 weeks I would think. Hes a beautiful beige (light and dark) shade with red eyes. Anyways, I was holding and petting him last night and stroking his head, and he was grinding his teeth. ( I read it means they are happy) He also kept licking my hand. This morning when I got him out the cage, and started grinding his teeth again and he was licking my nose. This is the cutest thing. Do rats usually bond that quick? My baby rat LOVES me after one night of having him!?Aww thats nice =]. Sometimes they do, it just depends. Maybe he was lonely in the petshop and is glad to have a friend. My dwarf hamster licks my hands - and i read that its actually licking the salt of then (THEY LOVE SALT!) Well done with getting such a close bondMy baby rat LOVES me after one night of having him!?
Sometimes they do, and other times it takes weeks. For any small animal like a rat, bunny, or hamster, it depends on how it feels. If the transportation getting there was safe, their heart beat will go down and they will become more calm. If they like their surroundings, they will become even more calm. Just keep stroking him and getting him out of his cage because a rat doesn't have a very good memory so it would forget about how nice you were and just think of you as the loser who won't let me out and become aggressive. My baby rat LOVES me after one night of having him!? It sounds like you were lucky and managed to find a pet store rat that was well-socialized. It is normal for rats who are raised properly to bond with humans that quickly, but most rats from pet stores are not handled much when they are little so it takes time for some of them to be used to humans. Count yourself lucky that your little guy is a sweetie! You really should consider getting him a friend, though, rats do much better in same-sex pairs. Good luck with your rat!My baby rat LOVES me after one night of having him!?
Aw i had a rat like that, he was adorable! Sadly the little guy had a disease and died a week later :(.
Your lucky to have a friend like this one! It sounds like you and this rat have some fun, loved filled years ahead of you.
Have fun with him and keep him a happy chappy. His love will be very rewarding. My baby rat LOVES me after one night of having him!?that is SSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO鈥?CUTE!
But yes, some animals do bond very quickly.
